Welcome to the latest newsletter from the Bristol Bordeaux Partnership (BBP) for August  2024. Today we reflect on some recent twinning events and future planned social evenings.

Twinning Tuesday 

Zoe Gibbons, Bristol City Council's International Twinning Officer, organised a series of "twinning Tuesdays" for Bristol families in the school holiday  to raise awareness of Bristol's 7 twinning relationships, and also to provide artistically minded children and their hard pressed parents a quiet haven during a summer's days in the city.   

On August 6th BBP had a stall, along with Hannover, where children could design and make badges, design their own bus stops and create their own street art, as if on the side of the MShed or the Bristol Beacon.

The Lord Mayor joined in and designed his own Bordeaux Boor badge. Bordeaux has benefited  of late from increasing numbers of boar making their way into the city, aided by its wildlife corridors.  Now that's what we call rewilding. 

Wine Tasting - BBP's pre Christmas social

BBP member  and WSET qualified wine educator Ian Abraham has offered to run a wine tasting evening for BBP members on Friday November 29th at the Bristol Commonwealth Society. This evening, which should be both fun and informative, will focus on the wines of Bordeaux and its environs.

Tickets will cost £20 per head and will include the wine (of course) and bread and cheese snacks. So that we can gauge demand (and how much wine we'll need!) if you are interested, please contact either Mark Packham on Mark.packham003@gmail.com or Gill Hood on  gannahd1@outlook.com and let them know.  We will confirm details nearer the date.

BBP & ABB members meal

A few members of our Bordeaux sister organisation - the Association Bordeaux - Bristol- are visiting Bristol in October and, as part of their visit, BBP will be hosting them for a meal on Wednesday October 23rd at the Audley Redwood complex in Failand. BBP members are invited to join us for the meal to welcome our Bordelaise colleagues.

Tickets for the meal will cost £25 per head and will include a welcome drink. Additional medium glasses of wine will be charged at the cost of a small glass. You are also welcome to bring your own wine; the restaurant will charge a £5 corkage fee.

As with the wine tasting, so that we can gauge demand, as numbers are limited, please contact Mark or Gill using the emails above and let them know.  Mark & Gill also have details of the excellent menu should you be interested. Again, we will confirm details nearer the date. 

October visit to Bristol by Bordeaux colleagues.

In addition to the meal, we are currently planning events to support a visit in October for our colleagues from our sister twinning organisation, the Association Bordeaux - Bristol. 

Anyone interested in helping with this visit, or simply joining the events, please let us know. Thanks a lot to the couple of members who have already contacted us offering to help.
