BBP Newsletter. Welcome to the latest newsletter from the Bristol Bordeaux Partnership (BBP) - the first for 2026. Today we reflect on a number of initiatives to promote greater twinning between Bristol and Bordeaux. |
Our Annual General MeetingJanuary saw the BBP AGM held at City Hall, with event being chaired by The Lord Mayor, Henry Michallat (pictured here with the chair of BBP Mike Healey, Zoe Gibbons, Bristol City Council's International Twinning Officer and our guest speaker Samir Savant, CEO of St George's)..
As well as the formal AGM standing agenda items, such as the financial and membership reports, we reviewed a busy 2025 - including our members visit to Bordeaux, a wine tasting evening, the placement of University students in schools in each city and our ongoing activities looking to promote further links between our 2 cities - and we looked forward to more twinning activities in 2026.
We were also joined by our guest speaker, Samir Savant, CEO of St George's Bristol, who gave a fascinating talk about the activities of St George's, Samir talked about how St George's is developing links with all of Bristol's twinned cities through events such as the Festival of Voice.
Samir also discussed his recent visit to Bordeaux where he and his partner gave classical musical recitals and met with various musical organisations from Bordeaux with a view to developing lasting musical links between the 2 twinned cities.
And of course at the AGM we all celebrated another good year of twinning activities with a glass of Bordeaux. Here's to another great year of twinning in 2026. |
University of the West of England (UWE)We mentioned in the final newsletter of 2025 that BBP has been helping UWE to form a formal partnership with Bordeaux University to drive future collaboration activities between the two institutions.
The really good news is that the Memorandum of Understanding has now been signed by both UWE and Bordeaux University.
Here's to many years of collaboration between the 2 institutions. |

Bristol Bears and Bordeaux Begles
January saw the other side of twinning with the battle on the Rugby field between the Bristol Bears and the Bordeaux Begles, both sides hoping to prevail in the pool phase of the Investec Champions Cup.
Unfortunately - although our own Exec member Thomas Sanchis may disagree as he's a Bordelais himself and was there at Ashton Gate cheering on Bordeaux - Bordeaux prevailed by 27 points to 15.
Better luck next time Bristol.
